    BIO
Raphael Biss is a writer-director of Scottish and French background. Raised in Kuwait during the Gulf War, he developed a fascination for stories exploring human resilience under extraordinary circumstances.
He sailed across the Atlantic to direct Savages in Foreign Lands, the first feature about the lost civilisation of the Guanches. Released in cinemas in 2017 and broadcast internationally, the film established his taste for ambitious, true stories.
A graduate of the National Film & Television School, Raphael’s award-winning films have screened at BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals, earning honours including an RTS Award, Best British Short at the UK Film Festival, and Best Short Film at Seoul. His feature script When All the Colours Fade Away was shortlisted at Le Groupe Ouest in 2021.
He has shadowed Peter Hoar (Da Vinci’s Demons, Nolly), Alex Garland (Devs), and Ricky Gervais (After Life) and has been mentored by Ben A. Williams (Sherwood). He is a member of Directors UK, the French Society of Directors and BAFTA.
Raphael is currently developing several feature films and television series.
