BIO
Natalie Malla is an award winning writer and director. She was selected for the 2023 Netflix UK and Creative UK Breakout Programme where she developed her original Rom-Com feature MISTLETOE KISS. Natalie is now in development on her debut feature film, RENT A FRIEND, in development with Gobby Girl Productions.
She has TV projects in development with Sister Pictures, Fred Films TV and Cortestar Media.
Her latest short film Apex was nominated for Best Script at BIFA qualifying Exit 6 Film Festival, won Best Short Film at Cannes Short Film Festival, Best Actress at Hollywood Shorts Fest and nominated for Best Short Film at the Crystal Palace International Film Festival. Her previous short films, I Am A Unicorn, The Girl In The Dress, Killing Thyme, Crush Hour and Mairi have also screened at multiple festivals worldwide, receiving awards and nominations including Best Writer at Underwire 2016, an Award of Excellence at the One Reeler Online Film Festival in LA, Best Short and Best of Festival at Carmarthen Bay 2016 and the Audience Award at Austin 2016
Alongside her writing and directing, Natalie is an accomplished script editor and script doctor. Natalie worked with Steven Knight, Tom Hardy and Chips Hardy on TABOO, Produced by Scott Free and Hardy Son & Baker. Taboo screened on BBC and FX in 2017.
Natalie has been long-listed for the ERA 5050 Tell Her Vision comedy writing initiative and the Shortcom Sitcom competition, and is an alumna of the Bafta Rocliffe New Drama Writing Forum.
